SAFE Haven For Cats is not only a cat rescue, they offer so many important services that benefit cats in need in our community. The two main programs are their adoption program and their spay/neuter clinic.

"Founded in 1994, SAFE Haven for Cats is Raleigh’s no-kill shelter and low-cost spay/neuter clinic. Since opening, SAFE Haven has orchestrated the adoptions of more than 10,000 cats and kittens and spayed or neutered over 30,000 animals in our clinic."

SAFE Haven maintains a shelter on Durant Rd in Raleigh and that is where their adoptable cats are housed. In addition to the adoption program and low cost spay/neuter clinic, SAFE Haven has a food pantry to help pet owners in need feed their companion animals. As a 501(c)3 organization, SAFE Haven relies entirely on donations to run all of their programs. They also have an active volunteer program and utilize foster homes for cats that need more attention and care before they are ready for adoption.

SAFE Haven doesn't just help pet cats, they also have a TNVR program to help feral and stray cats. TNVR is a program where cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and then returned to where they were found to slow population growth and end the cycle of cat overpopulation.

Check out Little Bear and Max, a bonded pair that have been with the rescue for a while now and would love to find their fur-ever home! Here’s what their people have to say about them. “Little Bear is a sweet big furry baby, who came to us from out of state with his best cuddle bud, Max. They are bonded and must go home together, furrever. L.B., as we affectionately call him, and Max are living with their amazing foster mom, and are available to adopt from her home. Do you have room in your heart for these precious boys? Contact the shelter to learn more about them and how to meet the two.”

Among the groups joining us for Spring Fling that serve other types of animals besides cats and dogs is Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge. As you would expect, their focus is farm animals!

“Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge provides lifelong care to rescued farm animals, educates people about the realities of animal agriculture, and promotes veganism by offering knowledge, support, and community.
Founded in 2012, Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in North Carolina just 15 minutes away from the downtowns of Carrboro, Saxapahaw, and Pittsboro and 20 minutes away from downtown Chapel Hill.”

Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge is a sanctuary in Pittsboro that is home to over 100 animals, including chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, goats, and sheep, who have been rescued from cases of abuse, neglect, and abandonment, and now receive lifelong care at the Refuge. These animals find peace and protection on 20 acres of pasture and woods where they are provided with top notch, life-long care. As the Refuge grows we will expand to provide homes for rescued pigs and cattle.

The animal-centered design implemented at the Refuge is incredibly unique. The animal houses are designed with the individual animals' and species' needs and desires in mind. This means that the duck & geese houses look different from the goat houses with the intent to provide a safe and caring environment for everyone. The Refuge holds monthly tours and has countless volunteer opportunities for folks who would like to meet the residents and learn about their stories, like Lillie here.

You can learn more about them and their programs on their website, linked above, or on their social media channels, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Lab lovers, make sure you don’t miss this group! Lab Rescue LRCP is a non-profit volunteer organization that rescues, fosters, and finds forever homes for abused, neglected, and abandoned Labrador Retrievers in the states of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

“We provide our Labs with veterinary care, spay or neuter services, and placement with foster families where they are loved while they await adoption. We are a virtual organization with Lab Rescue dogs fostered in homes throughout Virginia and Maryland. We can only do the lifesaving work that we do with the generous support of our donors and volunteers.”

Here is one of their adoptable dogs that is looking for their perfect match! Juno, aka June Bug, is truly blossoming from a shy pup to her very smart, very loveable and very happy self. She likes toys, walks, hikes, people love and cuddling. Check out their social media for videos (and more coming very soon) of Juno learning her commands, and doing an amazing job at that!! Juno is still a tad shy, and new humans just have to let her say hello first. It doesn't take long. Once she says hi, it's definitely "Hi, Friend!!" Juno is easy-going with baths and donning her harness too. Juno’s new family should be active, and ready to engage in extended interactive playtime in addition to long walks/runs and hikes. She would be an excellent candidate for agility training!

She is looking for a quiet rural or suburban home with a physical fence of 4.5+ feet. Juno is approved for children 16 and up as she needs a quiet home with few comings and goings. She gets along great with other dogs, but cats are unknown. She has a training addendum.

You can keep up with the rescue and all their adoptable dogs on their website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
