Did you know that animal rescue groups aren’t the only ones helping animals in need? There are many different groups helping animals without operating an adoption or foster program and Canine Community Outreach of NC is one of them.

“At Canine Community Outreach of North Carolina, we’re closing the gap between affordable canine care and our community. By educating owners about and enabling proper medical care, we improve canine lives. We connect individuals in need with low-cost canine medical care and also support medical fundraising for rescue dogs in need.
We are 100% volunteer-run. All money raised goes to spay & neuter initiatives, vaccines and other necessary medical procedures for dogs in our area.”

Their annual Sasha Bean Memorial Fund prize was recently awarded to Wake County Animal Shelter, supporting their Pit Stop Spay/Neuter program.

We don’t just have rescue groups joining us at Spring Fling, we also have some of our area county shelters and this year, one of those is Lee County NC Animal Services.

Lee County Animal Services is a small shelter that relies heavily on area rescues to pull animals from them. They are always looking for new partner rescue groups! Currently, they are working to become bigger and better able to serve their community. Being an open-admission, county shelter, they have to take each and every animal that comes through their doors. This is the burden of every county shelter in the country and why the support of the public is so vital! The animals and staff rely on external help, through rescue groups and animal lovers in the community to find a place for the animals to go. There is a limited amount of time and space in the shelter so each animal needs to find a new place to go as quickly as possible.

Mumford is one of the pets there now looking for his perfect match or for a rescue to help him find them!

How can you help? Foster for a rescue group, share the shelter’s adoptable pets on social media to help them find an adopter or rescue, donate supplies to the shelter, or adopt a pet straight from the shelter! All of these options will help the pets and people of Lee County Animal Services.

Puffie’s Pawz Rescue has joined Unleashed for many adoption events, often at our Cary store on Kildaire Farm Road, and we love having them with us every time!

Puffie’s is a small, family run rescue that was created in hopes of saving as many animals as possible. Their mission is to “help rescue unwanted, abandoned, and surrendered animals in need.” Puffie’s ensures that every dog and cat are up to date on their vaccines, have been well socialized with other animals, and are spayed/neutered. Puffie’s is a small rescue but they are a huge help to animals in need! They always have some lovable, sweet pups, so we know that they will have plenty of pets to love on at Spring Fling!

Meet Buddy, one of their available pets. Buddy is a beagle mix, around three years old. He is originally from Texas where he was part of a roaming pack of dogs. Thankfully, Buddy was one of the lucky ones and was eventually caught and made his way to Puffie’s Pawz. Here is what the people who love him have to say about Buddy.

"Buddy has been one of the most calm, loving, and willing to please dogs. Buddy is house/crate trained. He loves his female friends and he could play all day long with them. One of his favorite things to do is run in the backyard and sit under the sun! Not to mention he loves to be next to his people while relaxing. Buddy is one of the most mellow dogs we have and I think that Buddy will do best with someone who will understand his past! He definitely likes someone to go out for walks and he sure enjoyed a long day of hiking. Buddy is looking for an active family who will make part of the family."
