Freedom German Shepherd Rescue Helps Shepherds in Need

Freedom German Shepherd Rescue Spring Fling 2025 Banner

Freedom German Shepherd Rescue has been saving German Shepherds in the Carolinas since 2018. As a returning Spring Fling attendee, they love the interacting with the crowd and connecting with all the other rescue groups and vendors.

"We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) rescue comprised solely of unpaid volunteers that share the common goal of saving neglected, abused, and abandoned German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes from shelters, owners who can no longer keep them and partner rescues."

They strive to treat their dogs, their community, other rescues, and the shelters they help with respect and integrity while also being fully transparent about what they do. Everything they do is for the dogs and their process reflects that. New dogs to the rescue are placed with foster families and provided with medical care and basic training. Foster families constantly evaluate the behavior and personality of each dog so that they can be matched with the right family when they are ready to be adopted.

Freedom German Shepherd Rescue also works to educate the community on topics like pet overpopulation, disreputable breeding, the plight of unwanted pets, and ways to keep their current pets healthy and happy.

One of the dogs in their care is Bobby, pictured here. You can read what her people have to say about him here:

"Meet Bobby - or what I like to call him: Buddy. He is the best Buddy you could ever ask for. Who knew an 80-pound, furry weighted blanket would be so comforting. This guy had a really hard start to his young life. No one knows how he ended up being an emaciated stray, but we are all so happy he is thriving and healthy now! Buddy loves extremely hard and is a big goof. He currently doesn’t have a yard to free roam in but would love one - as long as it is fenced. He started going to day care and making other furry friends. He has a high prey drive for squirrels so we don’t think he would be good with little animals. He loves everyone he meets but he doesn’t understand how large he actually is so may be too big for little kids. We visit his BFF Colby every night to get a treat and a few pets which he handsomely sits for. He needs some training as he will grab food off your plate or counter but hey, he came to us at 44 pounds and is still a puppy at 2 years old. He does wonderful walking on his leash and he and his foster mom walk about 6 miles a day. He has never met a patio he doesn’t like! His foster mom calls him a “Patio Prince” lol Everyone in the neighborhood knows him. He lays down and patiently waits for any crumbs to fall. Since his foster mom has had him he has never had to be in a crate, he free roams all day and has never had a potty accident. As long as he has a couch or bed to lay on he is a good boy. If you're interested in making Bobby your furever buddy, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Bobby is being fostered in Charlotte."

You can keep up with Bobby and all the other dogs in the care of Freedom German Shepherd Rescue on their website and their social media: Facebook and Instagram. They also do adoption events at Unleashed in Cary so check out the calendar on the Unleashed website to visit them there!
