Little dog lovers, you’ll love this group! Chihuahua Rescue and Transport, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit rescue that takes in Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. All their dogs live in foster homes. CRT is not your typical Chihuahua rescue, they don’t just look for the cute and perfect ones. For every puppy that is either born into or taken into by CRT, they will take two senior dogs. CRT tends to take the ones that have extensive medical issues, hospice cases, and even more seniors.

“Our purpose is to extend public education and awareness regarding overpopulation, abuse, neglect, importance of spaying/neutering, and the tragic, high rates of Chihuahua abandonment and shelter euthanasia. We have placed thousands of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes in approved homes since 1996. CRT requires an application, vet check, reference check and home visit for each adopter.”

Check out this little guy, Teddy, one of their current residents who isn’t available for adoption right now, but hopefully will be once he gets all the care he needs! CRT was recently asked to help an 8 week old chihuahua puppy who was dumped at a shelter with front leg deformities. No other rescue offered to assist, so of course CRT had to say yes! After taking this little guy to the regular vet, it was determined that he probably has hydrocephalus as well (excess water on the brain). He is a very sweet little pup and tries very hard getting around on his front elbows. He is eating well and seems stable for the most part. However, it was recommended that he see a Neurologist and then an Ortho Specialist for his little legs and mobility problems. CRT will do all that is necessary to help Teddy. Please note that Teddy is not available for adoption at this time.

If you would like more information on the rescue, or possibly like to become a volunteer or foster please check out CRT’s website, here. You can also visit them on Facebook and Instagram.

Lending Paws a Hand (LPAH) is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run, non-profit dog and cat rescue organization that seeks to save the lives of unwanted, at risk animals in need throughout Lee County, NC.

LPAH is a foster based rescue, which means our dogs and cats are placed in a loving foster home while they wait for their forever home!

Without a physical location, LPAH depends on compassionate members of the community to open their hearts and homes to animals in need and serve as a foster home until fur-ever homes are found. Two of the dogs in their care who would love to find their perfect matches are Jessi and Xena.

About Jessi:

Hi there! I’m a big cuddly goofball looking for a home to call my own! My foster family has been working really hard in training me and they say I’m a quick learner! I’m crate trained and house trained. I know sit and I'm learning how to play fetch! I absolutely love humans. In fact, I love them so much that I typically sit on their laps any chance I get! Who needs a blanket when you have me!? I would love a family that plans on giving me a little bit of bacon now and again, an awesome bed to sleep in and one that will love me unconditionally. I get along well with other dogs, but a slow introduction is always best. I'm a little too curious about cats so I would much rather go to a home without one. If interested in adopting me, an application can be filled out at lpah.org/adoption. You can also visit my Petfinder link, here, to learn more.

About Xena:

Alright folks, not to brag but I'm kind of a big deal. Here is a little bit more about my fabulous personality: I'm medium to high energy, so that means my perfect family will be active. You like long walks? How about playing fetch in the backyard? Then I'm your gal! Do you like to shop? Well then, I love toys! So you can shop for me all day and pick out the coolest ones! I do love to tear out the stuffing though, so you'll have to shop quite often! I usually bark at other dogs I don't know at first, so slow introductions are best. It would be great if my new family could also work on training more, I do pull on a leash when excited but I'm easy to correct! If you would like to adopt me, an application can be filled out at lpah.org/adoption. You can also visit my Petfinder link, here, to learn more.

We support all types of animal rescue groups, not just the ones that focus on dogs and cats! One of those groups is Annwn Animal Sanctuary. They have a variety of programs, from the traditional foster and adoption programs you would expect from a rescue group, to educational programs for youth, ambassador animal visits, and much more!

“We focus on creating better lives for small and exotic animals of all kinds through community partnership. Our members and volunteers provide the momentum that helps us affect change as a nonprofit . Through rescue, rehab, rehoming, and education, we provide services that make a long-lasting difference for animals and the community we serve.”

Their mission is to support animals of all kinds, but particularly small and exotic animals other rescues won’t take. They also strive to connect people and nature through immersive animal experiences. They have over 300 animals across 35 species. Cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, gerbils, kinkajou, ferret, chinchilla, hedgehog, snakes, frogs, lizards, turtles, tortoise, pigs, goats, birds, fish, axolotl…. Really a little bit of everything!

Keep up with Annwn Animal Sanctuary and find out how to help out on their website, linked above, or on any of their social media channels; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
