Don't miss the little ones with Chihuahua Rescue and Transport!

Updated: Apr 3, 2022

Little dog lovers, you’ll love this group! Chihuahua Rescue and Transport, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit rescue that takes in Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. All their dogs live in foster homes. CRT is not your typical Chihuahua rescue, they don’t just look for the cute and perfect ones. For every puppy that is either born into or taken into by CRT, they will take two senior dogs. CRT tends to take the ones that have extensive medical issues, hospice cases, and even more seniors.

“Our purpose is to extend public education and awareness regarding overpopulation, abuse, neglect, importance of spaying/neutering, and the tragic, high rates of Chihuahua abandonment and shelter euthanasia. We have placed thousands of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes in approved homes since 1996. CRT requires an application, vet check, reference check and home visit for each adopter.”

Check out this little guy, Teddy, one of their current residents who isn’t available for adoption right now, but hopefully will be once he gets all the care he needs! CRT was recently asked to help an 8 week old chihuahua puppy who was dumped at a shelter with front leg deformities. No other rescue offered to assist, so of course CRT had to say yes! After taking this little guy to the regular vet, it was determined that he probably has hydrocephalus as well (excess water on the brain). He is a very sweet little pup and tries very hard getting around on his front elbows. He is eating well and seems stable for the most part. However, it was recommended that he see a Neurologist and then an Ortho Specialist for his little legs and mobility problems. CRT will do all that is necessary to help Teddy. Please note that Teddy is not available for adoption at this time.

If you would like more information on the rescue, or possibly like to become a volunteer or foster please check out CRT’s website, here. You can also visit them on Facebook and Instagram.
