Rescue Ur Forever Friend Blog

Rescue Ur Forever Friend (RUFF) is returning to Spring Fling! RUFF is an all-volunteer, foster based, nonprofit rescue dedicated to reducing the homeless population of pets, through foster care, medical treatment and adoption into forever homes. RUFF envisions a community where every pet finds a loving and permanent home, is spayed or neutered, and is treated with respect and compassion.

RUFF love

RUFF's Mission is to improve the quality of life of homeless pets by providing a safe refuge through excellent foster and medical care until their permanent homes are secured, ensuring a long lifetime of safety, love and companionship. RUFF also encourages responsible pet ownership through education, advocacy, programs and services.

At RUFF, they believe every animal deserves a second chance at love. They are a foster-based, all-volunteer rescue in Triangle, powered entirely by people who give their time, hearts, and homes to save lives. Because RUFF's dogs live in foster families, they receive real love, real structure, and real healing while they wait for their forever homes.

RUFF isn't just rescuing pets; they are building a compassionate community that believes every tail wag matters. From late-night transports to joyful adoption days, it truly takes a village, and they are so proud of theirs. Every adoption is a celebration, every foster is a hero, and every volunteer is part of the heartbeat of this mission.

When you support RUFF, you’re not just helping an animal, you’re giving hope, love, and a fresh start. If you have thought about fostering, come talk to them, they would love to share more. RUFF had 65 dogs adopted this past year. Help them rescue even more by fostering!

Meet Peach!

RUFF Peaches Valentines
Adopt Peach!

(available as of 4/11/26)

"Hi there! My name is Peach, or Peaches, or Peachie. You can call me any of them. I'm a big girl (95lbs) but I don't know I am that large (I still think I'm a puppy). Like my fruity name, I’m sweet, full of personality, and a little zesty too! I’m a happy, playful, and cuddly girl who loves adventures,

walks, and curling up in your lap or by your feet for snuggles.

I’m looking for a loving home with adults or older kids who can appreciate my playful, affectionate personality. My foster mom says I’m a joy to care for, and she has experience with dogs like me, so she knows just how to make me feel comfortable and secure."

Save the Clefts Blog Announcement

Carolina Basset Hound Rescue is joining us for their very first Spring Fling this year, but they are not new to Unleashed! In fact, they will scrub-a-dub-dub your dirty dog this summer! Mark your calendar for 6/20 from 1-4 pm when Carolina Basset Hound Rescue will take over the dog wash at Unleashed at Lake Boone (Lake Boone Trail/Wycliff Rd. Raleigh) and do the washing for you! It is one of our favorite fundraisers- you bring a dirty dog, leave with a clean dog, and the rescue raises funds to save more dogs!! That's what we call a WIN-WIN-WIN!!!

Speaking of saving dogs, CBHR was founded in 1993 and is a volunteer-staffed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome unwanted basset hounds in both North and South Carolina.

Carolina Basset Hound Rescue works to save basset hounds from neglect, abuse, and abandonment. CBHR is committed to eradicating unnecessary euthanasia for basset hounds. They provide health screenings and medical services such as spay/neuter, and heartworm disease treatment. The rescues are then placed in foster homes to promote emotional healing, proper socialization, and provide a safe place for recovery. Their final goal is to match basset hounds to the perfect forever homes.

CBHR's Mission:

"To rescue, rehabilitate and rehome unwanted basset hounds in North Carolina and South Carolina."

Happy Tails: In 2025, CBHR took in 55 new dogs and completed 63 adoptions!

Adoption Highlight:

Two basset hounds, Beau and Buddy, sitting on a dog bed together

Meet Buddy and Beau, a bonded pair that came into the rescue because their elderly owner could no longer take care of them. They're both around 6 years old and looking for a new home where they can stay together.

Check out their bios and see if they are the right fit for you!

It Takes a Village Logo Banner

It Takes a Village Rescue NC (ITAVR NC) is returning to Spring Fling this year! This rescue began in 2017 through the power of social media. As many in the rescue world know, it only takes one adorable face to spark an entire mission. Their passion is to protect and save the lives of as many as they can, and to unconditionally love the ones whose time has passed.

Their Mission is simple: to continue rescuing animals until their services are no longer needed - the ultimate goal of any rescue organization. United through the power of social media, their dedicated community, known as "Villagers," shares a deep commitment to compassion, love, and empathy for every animal in their care. Their vision extends beyond the Carolinas, with a goal to help any dog in need, no matter where they are.

In the last 7 years, ITAVR NC has grown exponentially and has connected hundreds of pets to adopters, fulfilled family dreams, and changed lives. They have developed partnerships with Northern Rescues, and the purchase of a transport van has allowed them to send hundreds of dogs north where there is a shortage of shelter dogs. They have developed many relationships with local shelters, trainers, service dog programs, local animal control, and many more. ITAVR NC never shies away from a medical case; no matter the cost, they rescue dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds.

"In Memoriam: To Simon (left) and Pepper (right). Although your lives were too short, you inspired us to push forward, and you continue to impact us and the mission we started in your name. Gone far too early, but your memories live on in our hearts."

"Although some of the cases may break our hearts, they are quickly rebuilt by the resilience and strength that resonates from every dog. Our vision is to embrace every situation and inspire all those around us."
