Freedom Ride Rescue

Freedom Ride Rescue has joined us for Spring Fling several times before and we are excited to have them back again this year! A couple of their favorite things about Spring Fling are meeting the other rescue organizations, fundraising, and the Egg Hunt of course!

This dog rescue group was established in 2019 when a dog named Rider was pulled from Granville County Animal Shelter and given a "Freedom Ride."

"In the rescue world, a "Freedom Ride" is that magical car ride out of an animal shelter for a dog. At first they are nervous, but there is a moment when they realize they are safe ... tongue out, tail wagging, a new chapter for them."

Freedom Ride Rescue accepts all types of dogs, from pregnant moms and puppies, all the way to hospice cases and everything in between. Co-founders Mollie and Larry initially envisioned a small rescue that saved 50 dogs a year. Thanks to the amazing support and passion of their community, Freedom Ride Rescue has saved over 2,000 dogs (plus a few cats)!

"Freedom Ride Rescue brings together individuals who share a love for dogs and a dream to see a no-kill state. Our foster-based network brings in dogs of all ages, sizes and breed mixes. We help to rehabilitate these animals – providing security, love, medical, and behavioral training as needed – until they can be adopted to their “fur-ever” homes."

Like most rescue groups, Freedom Ride relies on foster homes to be able to save more dogs. They provide everything you could need to foster a dog, including a crate, food, and bowls, you just provide your love and time! All dogs in their care receive necessary vetting like a spay or neuter, vaccines and parasite prevention.

Black and white puppies in a basket with toys

Two of their adoptable dogs are Sirius and Pandora, pictured here. These sweet boxer puppies were surrendered the day they were born due to cleft lips & cleft palate. "They were tube fed around the clock and have turned into amazing and loving little puppies." They are currently two months old and are looking for their perfect matches! Like every young puppy, they are learning all kinds of things and will need training in their new homes. Their cleft lip/ palate is easily manageable, they just need food that won't get stuck in the cleft! Check out their pages on the rescue website for more information on these cuties and to find out how to add them to your family!

You can learn more about Freedom Ride Rescue on their website and make sure to stop by their booth at Spring Fling! Follow them on their social media channels- Facebook and Instagram- to keep up with all their activities and get updates on their adoptable dogs.

Paws 4 Ever Joins Spring Fling!

Welcome to a group joining us at Spring Fling for the first time, Paws4Ever! This group was established in 1962 as the Animal Protection Society of Chapel Hill. Undergoing a couple name changes over the years, they became Paws4Ever in 2008 to best reflect their mission.

"Our current name and its tagline, “Adopt, Care, Train.” brings focus to the core areas of service that continue to make our whole community a progressive leader in the humane treatment of animals."

When asked what excited them about Spring Fling and why they wanted to attend, they said:

"We are excited to join other pet-related groups to share more about our organization with the Raleigh area!"

Most of their adoptable animals come from local county shelters. In addition to adoptions, Paws4Ever also has several programs to aid pets in the community and the people who love them for the lifetime of the pet. One is training! You can find information about group classes as well as individual lessons, workshops, and virtual consultations on their website. They also have a short hiking trail and a dog park available for those who register to use it. For those who need to rehome their pet but don't want them to go into a shelter, they offer help in the form of tips and articles on safe ways to do that as well as a section on their website dedicated to advertising those pets.

"Paws4ever is dedicated to creating and growing lifetime relationships between pets and people through adoption, training, education & care."

Another great and fairly unique program of theirs is Legacy Care. In this, people can register their pet to enter a home-like environment at Paws4Ever in the event that they outlive their person. These pets do not enter a shelter or shelter-like environment! They are housed in a specific Legacy Care building or in a foster home until a new home is found for them. What a great option for those who worry about what will happen to their pet if they are no longer there to care for them!

Goose
Adopt Me!

One of their currently adoptable dogs is Goose, pictured here! He has been with the rescue since October 2023 and has been living in shelters most of his life. Goose is a great size, right around 50lbs. He's a goofy, playful, lively boy who loves squeaky toys, blueberries, hiking and belly rubs! He will roll on his back any time he wants one! He loves to hunt small critters so needs to be in a home without small animals. He also likes plenty of space when playing with toys or eating, so we recommend a home without small children.

Love Mutts and Cats, too Rescue is coming to Spring Fling 2025!

Love Mutts Rescue has joined us many times for Spring Fling as well as held adoption events at some of our stores over the years. We are excited to have them back again in 2025! Being a long-time Spring Fling attendee, Marli, the founder of Love Mutts says that she loves the different ways it allows the public to be involved with supporting the rescue community and that it brings out people who are interested in adopting a pet!

Love Mutts Rescue is a non-breed-specific dog rescue operating in central North Carolina and south-central Virginia, operating since June of 2006. They are a volunteer-based group that work hard to rescue dogs that come from all backgrounds. They have helped all kinds of animals since they started, including 7,500 dogs, 500 cats, 2 horses, 3 100lb pigs, and a few rabbits and guinea pigs. That's quite a list! Love Mutts pulls dogs from shelters whenever they have foster space available and will also accept dogs when the person who found them or the owner, can keep them in their home and act as a foster parent.

Their rescue motto is

"It Matters to this One"

which is a reference to the Starfish story, as they work to save as many dogs as they can.

The Starfish Story

Once a dog joins the rescue, Love Mutts provides them with appropriate medical care and place them in foster homes where they can be loved and nourished while they await their forever home. Their goal is to help all dogs that come into the rescue and find the families that are destined to be theirs.

Adopt Beckham
Adopt Me!

Meet one of their current adoptable dogs- Beckham. Sound familiar? He should! He was the pet we highlighted in last year's Love Mutts post as well, which means he's still with them after another year! This handsome guy has been with Love Mutts for quite a while, in fact, he's the dog that's been with them the longest! At 55lbs, he isn't too big or too small, he's just right. He is described as an active guy, who would be a great hiking companion. If you're more into hanging around the house, Beckham would love to hang out next to you on the couch, on his own bed, or just by your side, no matter where you are. He is house trained, and crate trained as well.

Beckham the Angel
Adopt Me!

Beckham has lots of dog friends and is good with most dogs, given proper introductions are done. He does best meeting other dogs in a controlled environment like a fenced yard; events can be hard for him because of the extra activity. He has had lots of training and has learned to check in with his handler when he gets stressed. Beckham is currently in boarding and his adoption includes "lessons" with his current trainer. This guy just celebrated his third birthday; help Beckham find his perfect match so that he gets to spend all the rest of his birthdays with his fur-ever family! If you can't adopt, you can make a donation to Love Mutts to help Beckham and all the other pets in the care of Love Mutts. To help Beckham find his perfect match, share his Petfinder profile far and wide and make sure to check it out yourself to see if he's the one you've been looking for!
