Heaven and Earth Animal Rescue Team (HEART) has been attending Spring Fling since the very beginning, and we are excited to have them back again this year! HEART is committed to reducing the number of homeless and unwanted animals through education programs and spay and neuter programs. Their mission is to make sure every pet gets matched with a home that will treat them as part of the family.

This organization is completely volunteer-based and depends solely on foster homes to house their dogs. They can only help as many dogs as their foster homes can responsibly care for. HEART takes in many dogs with special medical needs, ensuring they receive the proper care and treatment required before adoption. This includes getting them spayed/neutered and vaccinated. They are a no-kill organization, meaning no animal is euthanized due to lack of space. Each dog stays with HEART until they find their ideal forever family.

HEART Adoptable, Roxie!

Do you remember Roxie? She was HEART's featured adoptable last year and is somehow still looking for her forever home. Roxie entered the rescue with a double break in her front leg, but you'd never know that now. She is described as fun, energetic, and incredibly smart, able to figure out all kinds of things, like how to open doors, boxes, and containers! Roxie's foster says she is a great candidate for agility or search and rescue! She has an excellent nose and drive; plus, she is small enough to go places the larger dogs can't go! This tiny, but mighty girl is even dog and cat friendly! The total package!!

You can read more about Roxie here, and make sure to reach out to the volunteers at HEART if you think she might be the perfect fit for your family!

The Maggie Society Logo Banner

The Maggie Society is back for another Spring Fling! Recognized as a 501C3 nonprofit in August of 2016, this group has been dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected, or abandoned dogs and helping find them loving, permanent homes. You might recognize this group if you shop at our Cary store! The Maggie Society regularly holds adoption events there and you can find them in front of the store with adorable, adoptable dogs. Check out the Unleashed events calendar to see all of the dates that they will be there!

The Maggie Society is a foster-based group which means that their dogs live in foster homes where they learn valuable social skills and house manners while they prepare for their next chapter as a beloved family member. Other dedicated volunteers stay busy doing transport drives up the coast to get dogs to their fur-ever homes with The Maggie Society’s northern rescue partners. Volunteers are the driving force behind this group’s rescue, rehabilitation, and education efforts!

In addition to their adoption program, The Maggie Society works to educate the community about responsible pet ownership to help reduce the number of homeless dogs in need. They teach their community the importance of spaying and neutering, proper vetting, positive behavior training, good nutrition, and how owners can provide their dogs a quality life with good mental, emotional, and physical health.

If you've been to one of The Maggie Society's adoption events, you might recognize this sweet girl, Roxy Jolene!

Featured Adoptable, Roxy Jolene

"Howdy, I'm Roxy Jolene, a gentle soul with a knack for silliness. Sweet as I am, I still manage to find myself in peculiar places, like the shelter. Remember, I am a beagle, and the nose of a beagle (or any hound for that matter) can lead to trouble. It's probably my nose that caused me to stray and become a resident of the local shelter. Fortunately for me, a rescue team came along and bailed me out. I'm all about the love, folks. Adopt me and I promise to work more with common sense than with sense of smell. Beware though, I am just endless affection and a dash of my delightful goofiness! So, come get me!"

You can keep up with The Maggie Society, and their other adoptable dogs on their website or on their social media channels, Facebook and Instagram

Paws 4 Ever Joins Spring Fling!

Please help us give a warm welcome to a group joining us at Spring Fling for the first time, Blazin' Trails Bottle Babies! This nonprofit organization is dedicated to rescuing and nurturing orphaned neonatal puppies and finding them loving forever families when they reach an adoptable age. Keep reading to learn about the 24-hour-old puppy that inspired their mission.

Blaze the terrier mix as a newborn puppy
Blazin' Trails Bottle Babies Inspiration, Blaze

This group was established in January 2024 when founder Shana Sommer came across a newborn puppy, Blaze, while scrolling through social media. Blaze was only a day old and missing his front leg due to his mother chewing it off. Despite having no experience with bottle-feeding puppies, Shana felt called to help. This journey led her to discover the lack of reliable information available with no solid guidance or expert advice tailored to neonatal puppies. Vet after vet turned Shana and Blaze away, saying things like...

“Don’t get too attached.”

“There’s nothing we can do.”

“I’m not comfortable treating this puppy.”

“Sometimes they aren’t meant to survive.”

"Blazin’ Trails isn’t just a rescue—it’s a community united in giving even the most vulnerable puppies a fighting chance."

This tiny puppy was the catalyst for the start of something amazing. Shana built a dedicated team, and with their support, began compiling the knowledge and resources necessary to save these fragile puppies. Together, they built a foundation of specialized care so that puppies like Blaze would have a real, fighting chance at life.

Why adopt from Blazin' Trails Bottle Babies? Well, let us tell you! Every single puppy in their care is nurtured with love and care. Adopting from Blazin' Trails means you're getting more than just a pet. You're adopting a lifelong family member who has been given the best possible start at life. Each puppy receives comprehensive care, ensuring they are fully vetted and ready to join your family. They are also socialized through foster homes, where they begin socializing with people, dogs, and environments and are introduced to crate training, potty training, and basic manners. The support from Blazin' Trails doesn't end at adoption either. Their team will be there for you to offer guidance and answer any questions as your new puppy settles into their new life.

"When you adopt from Blazin' Trails, you’re not just gaining a pet - you’re saving a life. Your adoption makes room for the next fragile puppy to be rescued and nurtured. Adopting is a compassionate choice that gives a puppy a loving home and a second chance at life."
