Black Dog Club is joining us for another Spring Fling this year! This Smithfield-based group focuses their efforts on black dogs, just as the name suggests. These dogs often fall victim to "black dog syndrome", where they are overlooked for adoption due to a number of different factors. They also take in a number of harder to adopt dogs from shelters, ones that are in need of a little extra time and love. Those dogs might have heart worms, be part of a bonded pair, pregnant, or have a rough history they need help overcoming.

"Black Dog Club provides rescue, rehabilitation, and training for dogs pulled from high-kill, rural animal shelters."

When it comes down to it, Black Dog Club is happy to welcome any animal, regardless of color, breed, or species! Make sure to look for them and some of their adoptable dogs at Spring Fling!!

Little dog lovers, you’ll love this group! Chihuahua Rescue and Transport, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit rescue that takes in Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. All their dogs live in foster homes. CRT is not your typical Chihuahua rescue, they don’t just look for the cute and perfect ones. For every puppy that is either born into or taken into by CRT, they will take two senior dogs. CRT tends to take the ones that have extensive medical issues, hospice cases, and even more seniors.

“Our purpose is to extend public education and awareness regarding overpopulation, abuse, neglect, importance of spaying/neutering, and the tragic, high rates of Chihuahua abandonment and shelter euthanasia. We have placed thousands of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes in approved homes since 1996. CRT requires an application, vet check, reference check and home visit for each adopter.”

CRT does not warehouse dogs in a shelter. As in most rescue groups, our dogs are cared for in healthy, safe, loving foster home environments. CRT foster parents work very hard to be sure that their foster dog feels safe and loved while working on housetraining, crate training, socialization, etc. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, heartworm tested, fecal tested, microchipped, on heartworm preventative and have all other veterinary needs taken care of (such as heartworm treatment, dentals, luxating patellas, etc.) CRT is known, and has always been known, for taking the injured, infirm and elderly Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. Please consider the adoption of one of these dogs as well. Seniors and special needs dogs make great pets too!

If you would like more information on the rescue, or possibly like to become a volunteer or foster please check out CRT’s website, here. You can also visit them on Facebook and Instagram.

Mia’s Mafia is a small group of animal lovers working hard to improve the lives of cats and other animals in need. They focus on Trap Neuter Release for cats and medical care for all the animals they can.

TNR is a process where feral cats (those who live their best lives outside, away from humans except their caretaker/feeder) are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, given an ear tip to identify they are cared for and altered, and then released back to their home and person who cares about them. During this process, it’s not uncommon to find cats who don’t belong in the feral category. Those are cats who are friendly with people and probably were pets at some point in their life, or kittens who haven’t made up their mind about people just yet. These cats get the same medical care, usually minus the ear tip, and then join a foster home where they begin the search for their perfect match.

"We focus on keeping things positive and supporting each other so we can be at our best to do the most good for the animals. We strive to collaborate with others and encourage our team to come up with new and better ideas of ways to help and to run with those ideas. "

Mia’s Mafia is one of the rescues that regularly uses the Cat Shack facility at our Stonehenge store so our customers there have probably seen a few of their adoptable cats and kittens!
