Animal Aid Alliance of NC

Animal Aid Alliance of NC is joining Unleashed for their first Spring Fling this year! Founded in December of 2024, Animal Aid Alliance of NC provides grants, food donations, and financial assistance in vaccinating and microchipping pets. They also proudly sponsor low-cost spay and neuter clinics in their mission to prevent unwanted litters, dismantle financial barriers for pet owners, and reduce overcrowding in shelters. In 2025 alone, they funded 27 Rescue Grants totaling over $40,000.

"We help the helpers—partnering with animal rescues to maximize their success and impact."

In 2026, they plan to expand their impact through continuing to award grants to eligible organizations, sponsoring at least one no- or low-cost spay and neuter clinic each quarter, securing a mobile spay and neuter vehicle, and even possibly open their first brick and mortar.

"Animal Aid Alliance is dedicated to driving meaningful change by leveraging resources and expertise to support impactful rescue initiatives. With a commitment to transparency and accountability, we work diligently to create a lasting difference in animals' lives."

Meet Adoptable Cats with Animal Aid Alliance: Betsy and Beverly

"Betsy and Beverly are 1 year old bonded sisters who are looking for a loving forever home! They are fostered by one of Animal Aid Alliance’s team members in partnership with Turtle Pants Farm rescue. Their start in life was pretty rough, and they came to us as starved and weak kittens. With lots of love and care, they’re now thriving!

Betsy (black) has taken to people quite well. It takes her a little time to warm up but once she does, she’s the most affectionate girl! Loves to snuggle and curl up in your lap! Beverly (gray) is much more shy and prefers to play with her sister and sleep in her bed!

They’re looking for an adopter that will allow them the time and space to get comfortable in their new home! They’d do best in a calmer home without a lot of people running around but wouldn’t mind having cat and dog friends in the home as their foster has multiple of each! Their progress will come in small victories that build on themselves until they’ve learned to trust you! This will be a long process but so rewarding for all of you in the end when they learn to trust and love you!"

Mia's Mafia Logo Banner

If you shop at Unleashed's North Raleigh location in Stonehenge Market, you might recognize this next rescue group from the "Cat Shack," where the Mia's Mafia's adoptable kitties often come to spend the week! Mia's Mafia is a small group of animal lovers who are working together to help facilitate Trap Neuter Release (TNR), medical care, and adoption for animals in need. Mia's Mafia has been a regular Spring Fling attendee since they formed, and we are thrilled to have them back again this year.

TNR Program cats eating outside

Mia's Mafia began with a rescue cat, affectionately known as “Murderous Mia,” who came to her mom as a hospice foster with many medical issues. Her foster and the people around her fell in love and decided that they wanted to make a difference for cats in need like Mia. The way they chose to do that is through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) which is a process to spay and neuter feral cats and return them to the area where they were trapped (as often as possible). Community cats like these often have dedicated caretakers and are very much loved. Just because a cat doesn't want human interaction, doesn't mean they don't deserve to live their life as happy and healthy as possible!

Mia's Mission

"We focus on keeping things positive and supporting each other so that we can be at our best to do the most good for the animals. We strive to collaborate with others and encourage our team to come up with new and better ideas of ways to help and to run with those ideas."

True feral cats are very happy out in their environment. They can always use a little help though, in the form of someone to provide regular meals and bring them to a vet for medical care when they need it. Being spayed or neutered is also a huge help for these cats. Intact cats are more likely to get into fights during the breeding season and often sustain injuries or contract FIV. Additionally, feral cats are the main contributors of unwanted kittens that flood shelters and rescues during "kitten season" every year. Unlike their adult counterparts, kittens have a hard time surviving outside with predators, cars, inclement weather, and the people who view them as a nuisance.

While the TNR program is a huge part of the Mia's Mafia mission, they often come across cats who are not actually feral. These cats are usually former pets who were dumped or abandoned and left to fend for themselves. It's easy to spot these guys, even the ones who are too scared to be friendly. Where their true feral friends are well-kept and have good body conditions, pet cats who have been abandoned don't have the skills to survive without human help. They are often dirty and thin since they are not able to hunt well, and they aren't accustomed to caring for themselves outside. As much as possible, Mia's Mafia takes these cats in and puts them up for adoption after taking care of their medical needs

It Takes a Village Logo Banner

It Takes a Village Rescue NC (ITAVR NC) is also making their Spring Fling debut this year! This rescue began in 2017 through the power of social media. As many in the rescue world know, it only takes one adorable face to spark an entire mission. Their passion is to protect and save the lives of as many as they can, and to unconditionally love the ones whose time has passed.

Their Mission is simple: to continue rescuing animals until their services are no longer needed - the ultimate goal of any rescue organization. United through the power of social media, their dedicated community, known as "Villagers," shares a deep commitment to compassion, love, and empathy for every animal in their care. Their vision extends beyond the Carolinas, with a goal to help any dog in need, no matter where they are.

In the last 7 years, ITAVR NC has grown exponentially and has connected hundreds of pets to adopters, fulfilled family dreams, and changed lives. They have developed partnerships with Northern Rescues and the purchase of a transport van has allowed them to send hundreds of dogs north where there is a shortage of shelter dogs. They have developed many relationships with local shelters, trainers, service dog programs, love animal control, and many more. ITAVR NC never shies away from a medical case, no matter the cost, they rescue dogs of all sizes, ages, and breeds.

"Although some of the cases may break our hearts, they are quickly rebuilt by the resilience and strength that resonates from every dog. Our vision is to embrace every situation and inspire all those around us."
Otis Adoptable Flyer

Meet Otis!

Otis (est DOB 11/1/23) is XXL sized and also comes with a huge, sweet personality. Perhaps left behind when someone moved, he showed up at just the right home, where a wonderful couple took care of him and worked to get him into rescue. You honestly cannot find a nicer cat than this sweet boy. He will be an awesome cuddler and will truly be a great new family member.

Up to date on vaccines, deworming, and flea prevention. Neutered and negative for felv/fiv combo test and microchipped.

"In Memoriam: To Simon (top left) and Pepper (bottom left). Although your lives were too short, you inspired us to push forward and you continue to impact us and the mission we started in your name. Gone far too early, but your memories live on in our hearts."
