More than an animal rescue, Chatham Animal Rescue and Education CAREs! This is an organization with diverse programs to make the most impact possible on the pets and people of Chatham County.

"CARE is a nonprofit animal welfare organization whose mission is to ensure the health and safety of all dogs and cats in Chatham County. CARE promotes responsible pet ownership by educating the community, providing targeted spay/neuter programs, and fostering homeless cats and dogs until they are placed in loving, permanent homes."

Many of their adoptable animals come from their county shelter. These animals have a limited amount of time so CARE works hard alongside the shelter to save as many as possible and pull them into the rescue foster homes.

Through Lillie's Fund, CARE provides an option for low cost spay and neuter to residents of Chatham County with limited income. Dogs and cats who are family pets can receive the surgery as well as vaccines and a microchip at an affordable cost, with several veterinary offices in Chatham County serving as partners in the program.

CARE also helps the community cats of Chatham County. If you live in the county and have feral or community cats and would like to start serving as their caretaker, CARE is able to help with trapping them and help get them spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Additionally, they can guide anyone interested in becoming a colony caretaker with resources to provide the best care possible for the cats!

Another program, their Pet Responsibility Education Program (PREP) is geared towards children. PREP aims "to teach children to be safe around cats and dogs, to be responsible pet owners, and to help reduce pet overpopulation by advocating for spay/neuter in their communities."

Their website has so many resources for all kinds of pet-related topics, all with the aim of improving the health and safety of animals in the community. If you have a question about pet ownership, from adding a new pet to your home, to having to find them a more suitable home, and everything in between, CARE's Resource Center has you covered!

One of the adorable pets they have available for adoption is brother cats Simon & Garfunkel! Plus adorable pup Franklin!

This is a small group of people helping give back by saving the cats (and dogs and birds)! Mia is actually a cat, but it's her owner and friend's who help do all the work.

They focus on a Trap Neuter Release where it helps lessen the population of cats on the streets, but also they try to help find these furry felines new homes!

"We focus on keeping things positive and supporting each other so that we can be at our best to do the most good for the animals. We strive to collaborate with others and encourage our team to come up with new and better ideas of ways to help and to run with those ideas. "
