Ruff Riders Rescue Ur Forever Friend

One of the RUFF adopters, Karen Ruben, wrote a book, Ruff Riders, based on a true story about the volunteers that rescued a litter of puppies that included Ruby, the dog that she would end up adopting from RUFF.

In the book, 11-year-old Olivia Thomas longs for a dog of her own, but her reluctant parents don't think that she is responsible enough. When she hears about an abandoned dog with a litter of puppies in the forest, she and her friend April, along with their new tech-savvy friend, Quinn, leap into action.

Through teamwork, family, and community, Olivia learns that anything important is worth the effort.

A portion of the proceeds from the book go to RUFF! Learn more about the book and author here: Rescue Ur Furever Friend

Carolina Animal Network

Carolina Animal Network is joining us for Spring Fling again this year and we are excited to have them back! This animal rescue group is made of entirely volunteers who after many years of helping animals wanted to do more about the euthanasia rates for rural shelters by officially forming Carolina Animal Network in 2021.

"Our goal is to save at-risk dogs & cats from euthanasia in the Eastern North Carolina Region."

This group rescues animals from high-kill shelters in the South and either relocates them to no-kill rescue organizations throughout the country or helps them to get adopted around North Carolina. Carolina Animal Network uses foster homes to care for animals while they search for adopters across North Carolina or for other rescue groups across country can get the animals adopted.

The mission at Carolina Animal Network is to:

– rescue and re-home as many animals from high-kill shelters as possible
-promote spay & neuter to reduce animal overpopulation in our community
- advocate for shelter animals in North Carolina by pushing for shelter reform

Canine Community Outreach of North Carolina Logo Banner

Canine Community Outreach of North Carolina has joined us for Spring Fling multiple times in the past, and we are so excited to have them again this year! This team works hard to close the gap between affordable spay/neuter and their community through education.

Co-founders Colleen and Kate share a lifelong passion for pets, especially rescue dogs. They met in 2019, and the rest is history! While they love rescuing, their real goal is to reduce pet overpopulation and lessen the number of pets in need of rescue in the first place.

Canine Community Outreach of NC is dedicated to improving the lives of both dogs and their humans by promoting and enabling spay/neuter services. Through education and accessible resources, they empower pet owners to make responsible choices, ultimately reducing the number of homeless dogs in North Carolina.

In addition to raising awareness of the need to spay and neuter and providing funds for special cases and assistance with spay/neuter costs, their Sasha-Bean Memorial Fund helps one organization each year in their work to stop pet overpopulation.

Why spay or neuter your pet?

Sasha-Bean and Cofounder Colleen
Sasha-Bean and Cofounder Colleen

  • It reduces euthanasia! Fewer unwanted litters means less overcrowding at animal shelters and less unnecessary euthanasia.

  • It can help behavior issues! Some negative behaviors related to the mating instinct, like roaming or aggression, can be reduced after spay or neuter

  • It's cost-effective! It can be less expensive to have your dog spayed or neutered vs. birthing and raising a litter of puppies.
