Spirit Canine Rescue was born from the work of a friends group for a rural North Carolina shelter. The Friends of Alamance County, NC Dogs is a group dedicated to improving the plight of dogs in Alamance County and that's where the story of Spirit Canine Rescue began with a puppy named Spirit.

Spirit was found by a good Samaritan wandering the streets of Burlington. He was incredibly emaciated and too weak to even lift his head. His finder got him to the vet and the entire community came together to help Spirit. His foster family ended up falling in love and adopted him after just a couple months. So many people made donations to help with Spirit's extensive medical care; it was a group effort to help him overcome the circumstances he was found in.

From Spirit's ordeal, Spirit Canine Rescue was born! They utilize foster homes to save as many dogs as they can.

One of their current pups is Papa the Model (pictured at the right)! He is a middle-aged guy who would love to find his perfect match. He's described as very friendly and seems like a smartie! Papa loves car rides, playing dress up, people, and running around with a ball. Though he can be playful, he's also able to chill and relax.

A new group to Spring Fling this year is Zoomies Funny Farm! Established in October of 2023, this new nonprofit organization is aiming to provide long-term care for animals who need a little extra help finding their perfect match, especially dogs and cats.

"Our vision is to establish a distinguished sanctuary—a purpose-built farm and housing facility—dedicated to improving the lives of animals in need. This haven will provide both long-term and short-term residency for up to 20 animals at any given time."

While they are not currently taking in pets, the people behind Zoomies, Amanda and Forrest are active in the rescue community! They volunteer a lot with Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption and one of their favorite dogs there is Milhouse, pictured here. They would love for him to find his perfect match! You can find Milhouse's profile here on the CARA website.

Amanda and Forrest are looking forward to meeting everyone, spreading word about what they are doing, and making some new friends at Spring Fling. Make sure to stop by their booth and say hi and chat about their goals and how you can help!

Keep up with Zoomies Funny Farm and their progress toward building their sanctuary on their website or their socials, Facebook and Instagram.

"Pawsitively Pugs Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, care, and placement of unwanted, abandoned, neglected and abused pugs, giving each a second chance at a loving and caring forever home.  PPR accepts pugs regardless of their age, temperament or medical condition."

This group is completely volunteer run and relies entirely on donations to care for the pugs they take in.
